What are MBTI Statistics by Gender?

In this article, I will share with you the latest statistics for MBTI types by males and females in the population that was published in the 2018 MBTI Manual.

I had recently wrote a post on MBTI Statistics, but those were aggregated from data from the 1970s to 2002, so these are much more recent stats.

In this post, you will learn the estimated frequencies of psychological type and gender differences in the general population. The sample size for this was very large for (7,771) men and women (9,002), which makes it a great resource for understanding personality types and personality traits.

Let’s go ahead and get into learning which is the most common type and which is the rare personality type for each gender!

Most Common to Rarest Personalities for Males

I have ordered this list from the most common personality type to the rarest personality type for men in the population. This data was provided in Table 7.10 of the MBTI Manual 2018, which had a global sample of 7,771 men.

1. ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging): Approximately 18.9% of men in the population.
2. ISTP (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving): Approximately 13.3% of men in the population.
3. ESTJ (Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging): Approximately 11.3% of men in the population.
4. ESTP (Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving): Approximately 7.8% of men in the population.
5. INTP (Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving): Approximately 5.8% of men in the population. [tie for 5th]
6. ENFP (Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving): Approximately 5.8% of men in the population. [tie for 5th]
7. ISFP (Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving): Approximately 5.5% of men in the population.
8. ESFP (Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving): Approximately 5.1% of men in the population. [tie for 8th]

2. ISFJ (Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging): Approximately 11.3% of women in the population.
3. ENFP (Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving): Approximately 10.2% of women in the population.
4. INFP (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving): Approximately 7.6% of women in the population.
5. ESFJ (Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging): Approximately 7.5% of women in the population. [tie for 5th]
